				Buying R12

Have the prices for R12 gotten out of hand and if not (on a relative basis, ie relative to retrofitting my car), who is the best supplier? I'm inclined to take the license exam to have the ability to recharge the car myself since there does not seem to be a consensus on the BBS about how to make the air work decently. Judging from all the A/C posts, the best and most practical solution is the use of R12. (No, I don't want to remove it since there is an occasional drive with the missus and kids.) Jeff | ||

I'd call around to some shops. There are still shops around here in Michigan that will recharge R12. I called one last year for a R12 recharge and got a quote of about $100.

There is an equivilant refrigerant to R-12 that my mechanic uses. I think its R414. It has the same properties as R-12 however if you have a leak it isn't as bad for the environment as R-12. It's cheaper than R-12
