Hood Protection
Seeing the post about vehicle wrap makes me wonder if anyone has tried any of the 3-M clear plastic film paint protectors that come pre-cut for your particular model. Preferred brand? Any paint problems with heat/sun exposure or inability to 'breathe'?

I have the 3m Armourfend product on my car, good stuff. I have had mine removed and reapplied without any issues.

I have used it on 3 new cars and its looks and works great. Does not yellow. Cant see it from 4 feet away. It can be removed without damaging the paint BUT it DOES NOT like repaints. My wife hit a tire (I know) and all it did was burn the shield but left the paint perfect. Heres who I have use on three cars.

Its great stuff. I have it on the front of my turbo . Driving here in Las Vegas (gravel truck capitol of the world) It takes a lot of abuse. Often I will see the stone, here it impact, and when I look the only damage is a slight marring of the film. My airdam, which is not covered, has more touch up paint than original.

Invinca-Shield site has a video and they will send your one along will all the tools you need on how to do it and as long as you follow the directions you should be OK. The large pieces are the easiest - its the ones that wrap around is what takes time.
Tip - take your time - It took me 2 days to do a Corvette but man it looked good. Where in Virginia are you?

I have 3M 'Aerogard' on my RS Clone, bought it from clearmask.com. 112.00 for the mask, installation kit, and some spare for the headlights. Just did the hood and fender areas, piece of cake and the aerogard stuff will not yellow and is really tough.

I have seen a variety of different types...are they all similar? Install with water and soap and position? I have seen some problems with major obstacles like rocks and tin cans that would be a problem for anything. I think a strip along the rear fender would be beneficial...how far up the hood do you gowith this material? A mask protects for at least 3-4 feet...this stuff would not be as good for highway use but maybe around town.

I had Stongard the company that used to cut the 3M product for many retailers here install it on my then freshly painted car. I got the extended length hood sheet that you can't tell that it's there on a darker blue color. The kit usually includes protection for the near vertical surfaces as well as the brows under the headlights, smile and mirror backs. It's been three years and no issues with de-lamination.
