Independent Porsche shop

Do not know where to post my question, hopefully this is ok to put it here.
Looking for a good independent Porsche shop in San Gabriel/Southern California area - any recommendations?

TRE Motorsports in North Hollywood. Dave, Tyson, Jeremy and the guys are great! They'll take good care of you.

TRE in N. Hollywood is good. You should do a search and you'll find a bunch of information regarding shops in the LA area. One good one would be: "PPI Los Angeles" or "PPI San Garbriel" that should get you a lot of feedback.

Good Luck!

Welcom to the board. Can't give you any advise re: independent shop in your area (I'm on the other coast). But you've found the right place to ask questions about Porsches.

What type of work do you think your car needs. If it's routien, lots of people here willing to help.

Use the search function at the top of the page frequently, I have and always learn a lot.

Post a pix of your car when you can and again welcome.

Alan

Chc,

Listen to these guys, go to TRE. I don't think there are anybody in San Gabriel. There are a couple of shops in Pasadena and I am 10 min. away, but I rather sit in mad traffic and go see Dave at TRE. They make you feel like you have known them for 20 years.

What kind of car do you have?

Jeff

Thanks for all your quick reply.

For some odd reason, I put this 87 911 turbo, slant nose (full steel conversion) in my garage 2 weeks ago. It has 38,900 miles on it when the owner (my friend) deliver it to me and that is the fisrt time I see this car in person. I violate my own rule, never buy/sell car from/to friends. I was not in the market for a Porshce, not even for a car. The last time I drove a stick shfit is sometime close to 20 years ago. Anyway, like I mentioned earlier, it is odd situation. The car looks and drives nice, this is what I can say for now, I probably only drove 50 miles so far. I am looking for some place dependable/knowlegable and close by for me to drop the car in for any service required. I dove mercedes most of the past 15 years and I know where to bring my cars in but for Porsche I have no idea at all. Will post some pictures once I learn how to. Thanks again for all the information here.

Nice to have you here, welcome. Don't you just love that 2nd gear. Boost...oh my gosh. I bought my 930 from my friend also. I am in the Pas. and S pas. area quit a bit. What color is your slant nose? I'll keep an eye out for you in the SG valley sometimes.

If you want a shop in Pasadena try Strictly German or Scientific Automotive. Scientific is more expensive and more well, like an operating room. Strictly German is cheaper and the owner, Duran, is a solid guy that will tell you the truth. Tell him I sent you.

The color is dark blue with light grey interior. I think might be Iris Blue Metallic. Don't know how long I am going to keep this car. The other family member is pretty unhappy. I am hoping to hear someplace to the east side of S.G. valley. All information here is appreciated.

I am also looking for a good independent shop in the Pasadena area. After taking my '81 911SC to Rusnak, spending a ton of $$, and having both of my original rear carpets stolen out of my car, I need a recommendation on a good independent for routine maintenance and suspension work.

Nice looking ride there chc!

aoncurly, I have been using Duran (owner) at Strictly German for about 5 years. He's a very nice, very honest and fair guy. Tell him Dan sent you. His number is 626/440-1242.

Also in Pasadena and with a good rep is Scientific Automotive. I have used them and Jack, the owner is a nice guy too. But his rate was recently raised to (I think) $80 or $85/hr. Duran is still charging like $60-65/hr and he doesn't always charge it. He doesn't even charge me for oil changes half the time on my 951!

Last, that shop in Duarte I mentioned above? It is Glenn Yee in San Dimas not Duarte, my bad. He's at Independent Porsche Service 909-592-2066. Someone on the board posted, "He's been taking care of my cars for several years, I can't say enough good about him. And his prices are reasonable".

aoncurly, thanks.

I heard Glenn a couple of time even I didn't have a Porshce then.
Try that number for weeks, the only thing I got is a busy tone. Still have not found anything really close by.

I think he has gone full time into racing.

I have heard mixed comments about the service.

Where do you get your cars serviced? By yourself or at the dealer?

I don't do very much myself My recent experience with Boxster annual service at dealers (because of low mileage, I want to keep in PCNA's good favor if RMS issue occurs) has been pi** poor (Rusnak Pasadena, McKenna, Newport Beach; NB is now part of Power Group, could be the problem).

TRE has worked on both. Good folks.

I have driven by Strictly German often and wondered about them, but have not known/heard of anyone that goes there. Until now, Dan is the first.
