78 911sc

Guys I need advise. I am new to The Porsche cars. I am looking at a 78 and a 79 911. What is a 1978 Porsche 911 SC worth in below average condition with high miles and no history? Paint is ok. Interior is decent but worn. What would you pay???

Not a alot of info to go on, with the info you provided $6-8K tops. It will cost a lot of money to go from below average to nice.

SC values

Save your pennies and buy the best car you can. It is VERY expensive to restore 911's. I have a 1979 SC Targa with 44,000 original miles. I spent over $2000 last year in parts alone for a targa top recover, some weatherstripping, an engine compartment pad, major engine service, trans mounts, two sunvisors, brake pads and rotors.

All of the items except for the brakes were not worn out. Time and the Florida sun just dry rot the heck out of things. Some items to consider: A quality engine overhaul runs 8-10 K, paint 2500, trans 2000 or more, rust repair can be thousands. Recover the seats 500, carpet 400, sunvisors 160 each. It gets crazy real fast.

A good clean 100,000 mile 78 or 79 can be had for 10 to 11K but unless you are lucky, you will have to look at 10 or more to find the right one. If you are not really knowledgeable on 911's, find someone who is and have them look at any car before you buy it.

If you can find a low mileage original car for reasonable money, buy it. If you can find one with less than 60,000 miles for under 15000 and it is a documented low mileage original car grab it. I have turned down 19K for my car. Mine is NOT for sale.

Good luck
