2.7 stud replacement standards
I have an invoice from a 77 911s I am looking at. Car has 126k on it and this rebuild is at 81K in 1989. It includes the following
2 timing chains 2 chain tensioners 1 intershaft 1 brown chain rail 5(or 2??) black chain rails 1 main bearing set 1 rod bearing set 24 dilavar studs 1 int. shaft bearing set 12 valve guides 1 gasket set 1 clutch disc 1 clutch bearing 1 set barrels and pistons (wow) My question is this- if there was no indication of timeserts is there any way possible this was done? Is this always documented in work orders? Was it even something that was done in 89? If this engine was not timeserted is it a boat anchor waiting to happen? Trying to increase my knowlege base- thanks for any input. |
It does appear to have a cooler mounted under the engine grill. Have never seen this variety. How does it compare to the one inside the r front fender? Also- any way to externally see if it has carrera tensioner upgrades? I am not sure where to look for oil feed.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1133377821.jpg

The cooler "under the engine grill" is the AC condenser IIRC - no an oil cooler. Look for a factory "trombone" cooler in the front passenger wheel well for the external oil cooler.

From the picture you posted, you can clearly see the Carrera tensioner oil line, it's the small yellow-zinc plated line that terminates just above the engine tin on the left side, and you can see the same line just below the a/c pulley on the right.
That's not an oil cooler, it's the A/C condenser. A front oil cooler would be located in the front of the right front wheel well, or under the nose of the car. |
i tend to go with the newer powder painted dilivar studs on a 2.7. they don't stress the threads in the case as much as the steel ones do, expansion rates and all. should still have case savers, but some never pull studs, so keep on truckin', it may never happen.

I am asking him to take it in for a compression test and have the lower valve covers pulled to inspect the studs as best they can. Quoted $300 for this. What else is a no brainer PPI must?
