Braman Porsche Carfax help! Thinking about buying GF a Boxster.

Found a Boxster (had to be Auto.) in FLA. Im thinking about buying it for my girlfriend. It would be a long distance purchase as I am in Mass. The car is at Braman Porsche in West Palm Beach.

Anyone have a open Carfax account?

Here is the VIN WPOCA2986VS625853

also any feedback on Braman Porsche would be WELCOME!

Thanks List and Happy Holidays to all!

Hi Andrew,

I live in Palm Beach Gardens (and work in West Palm Beach), and use Braman for both my Porsche and Audi needs. I don't have a CarFax account, but I'm sure you'll get some responses.

If you would like me to do a PPI, I would be delighted. In fact, I've been looking for an excuse to visit them anyway, to inspect the Cayman static display. They've got a silver Cayman from PCNA until 15.January, but no one is allowed to test drive it, for that car has to go to Detroit for the Auto Show.

Let me know what you need to know...........Andras

I'm not sure what year Boxster you're looking at, but there are so many for sale that I would recommend trying to find one a little closer and with a full service history.

Just my $.02.

You'd have to post a picture of your girlfriend before a carfax can be run. Kinda the rules here :-)
Just kidding...

Well I have met Norman Braman many times, all be it years ago. I also bought an e30 M3 from him in 1990. I have not been in there place in a couple of years but I know they’re always on the high side on price. Seems to me you could do better elsewhere.

I’ve been going down to the Palm Beach area for 35 years, the Braman dealership was a Movie theater in the 1970’s.

Andras, my folks own a home in Mirasol and my wife and I are looking at a place there too, you close by in PBG?

Hi Trader,

Yes, Braman is on the high-price side, since he is making tons of money with his dalership of Porsche, Audi, Bentley, BMW, Mini, Rolls, etc. How much more high-price can he get?

But I have bought some parts for my 911SC that were as reasonable as any mail order price. So I guess it all depends. I do comparison shopping, so I buy at the lowest cost for OEM parts.

We live in Shady Lakes, which is just down the street rom Mirasol. But be careful or alerted - prices have doubled in home in the last three years. Real-estate is out of control down here. And with Scripps Research Labs coming, there is no end in sight. When we bought three years ago, we bought at the bottom of the curve, and I'd hate to think what our house is worth today.

Well, okay, I'm not afraid, but what am I going to do with all that profit?

My folks bought at Mirasol before they started the place so they got a hot deal. We just sold at Lands of the President and we're now looking in Mirasol but dear old Dad has a LOT more cashola then yours truely here. I am not looking at nearly as big a place as he has.

Then you shold defintely look at other places in South Florida, for Mirasol is VERY expensive, since it is very new, is a gated community, and the annual cost of that "gate" is very expensive.

Don't forget, that in Florida it's not just the purchase cost, but also the annual Home Owner's Association cost, plus the 2% R.E. tax on the Purchase Price, not on the assessed value on purchases. The annual Total can be unexpectedly high.

By the way, my older brother is selling his house in Media PA, and moving into a new house Dataw Island in SC. Much more reasonable than FL.

Let me see if I have this right....you're going to drop some serious dollars on a car for your GF, but you won't pop for $25 to get unlimited CarFax reports?

What's wrong with this picture?

Andrew,

Since posting your original question, you haven't visited the BBS to look for answers.

Wassup?

Sorry for the delay! and Thanks!

Well the carfax came up clean. The price Braman wants is $25,900. Which based on the conversations I have been having with the salesman is "their end of year sale price." I was thinking the car is worth no more than $20k It is a first year stripper with auto trans being the only option. The miles according to Carfax are true 12,***

I guess its back to car "b" at Porsche of Nashua NH. Its a 1997 silver/red with 28,900 miles and 5 spd. Their original asking was 28,900. They are now down to 21,500. after having the car for 60 days. My gf does not drive standard so there would be that learning curve to overcome. THANK GOD the 5spd is made with alot of VW passat parts. LOL

Thanks for all the kind offers to help.

The Boxster is about as easy to drive as any manual you can find.

Good luck!

Andrew - you can get more car for the money. We bought our '00 Boxster through a private sale in the spring from a person in Virginia. 24,000 miles, Cobalt Blue 5spd, clean and very near perfect. Polished turbo twists with extra set of original sport classics for $23500.

I'd talk to European Locators, Dave Maynard from NE PCA runs it and goes to the auctions etc. Seems like a small mark-up on his part to find the car you want if you don't have the time. Took me lots of looking, everyday on all the different sites to find what we wanted.

Do you ever check your local craigslist? Seems like Boxsters are a dime a dozen on our local Craigslist. Weren't the 97's pretty problematic? I'd think you should easily be able to find a clean Boxster with decent mileage for low $20's, especially this time of year.
