Do you replace the brake bands, stop blocks, etc. when replacing synchros?
I'm getting ready to order parts for my 915. I'm replacing all synchros, 1-2 and 3-4 sliders, and 1 2 and 3 hubs.
I am wondering about brake bands etc. Do most of you replace these as well? Pelican does not list them in the catalog. Thanks, Mike |
I don't have all the info with me, but the parts are available from Pelican, but they are special order OE parts (not returnable). I asked a similar question a few weeks ago, and John Walker replied with a list of items he always uses in his shop- search my user name and you will find the thread. He did recommend replacing all brake bands.

Brake bands are a coated wear component; replace them.

Thanks for the replies.
I will order them as well. |
Brake bands are a definite yes to replace. If you're doing it on a budget? The energizer and stop blocks can be reused. If you look at how these blocks work, they're not as significant a wear item as compared to the operating sleeves, brake bands, dog teeth, synchronizer rings.

you're trying to get as good a shift as possible, so yes. they keep the slider from passing over the syncro until the gear to be engaged matches the speed of the shaft the slider is on. they are very important.
