914-6 steering wheel
How does the 914-6 steering wheel differ from the early 911 wheels, and from the regular 914 wheels?
Also, does anyone know the p/n? Thx.

The 914-6 wheel looks exactly like the early 911 wheel but is at least one inch smaller in diameter.
If you get behind the wheel of a 914-6, you will see that the layout is a duplicate of a 911. David Duffield |

1970-71 914-6 hard rubber steering wheel 914 347 803 10
1970-71 914-6 leather steering wheel 914 347 806 10 1972 914-6 leather steering wheel 914 347 805 11 The 914s hubs are different than the 911 & 914/6 (recessed). Splines are the same and will go onto the 911 steering shaft but the depth is different. Turn signal cancelation ring mounting is different. You'll have to drill and countersink holes to mount it for the 911. The obvious diameter 400mm and 380mm difference between the 911 & 914/4, 914/6. Another difference is that the dish of the 914/4, 914/6 wheel is shallower than the 911 wheel due to the reduction in the diameter. Once mounted the wheel rim is closer to the dash. I have seen wheels marked with 914/6 numbers but have the 914/4 hubs. The correct hub is the key to finding a true 914/6 wheel.

I suppose I should post this over on the Early S Registry as well....but I have a few other 914 380 mm steering wheels: 914 347 804 10 (2/70 date stamp and 3/70 date stamp, hard plastic) 914 347 805 10 (12/70 date stamp, leather covered) All 3 of these wheels are non recessed hubs, and the 914/6 cancel ring from my "correct 914/6 wheel" 914 347 806 10 (10/69 date stamp, leather covered) bolts right up to all 3. hmmm.? My 914 wheel, with hard rubber rim, had a hub EXACTLY like the original 911 wheel it replaced. All of the 911 components were accommodated without modification. The 911 wheel was date stamped around 9/69, + or - a month or so. Don't have part #s handy. Car is a MY '70. There is a difference in dish. I fabricated a 1/2" spacer that I inserted between the hub and wheel, resulting in the rim being placed about the same distance from the dash as original.
Randy- Swing by the house and have a look!

spacer for 914/6 steering wheel
the 911 spacer that is available for Momo wheels from Smart Racing Products works wonders on my sixer; it does delete the turn sig cancel feature, but it is real nice on the track & removes the embarrassment of of actuating the wipers in autocrossing

I didn't recall the 804 though. I'd love to know the reasoning behind the different part numbers for what seems to be the same wheel. At first I thought it might have to do with the manufacture date but, that doesn't jive with your 806 wheel dated two months before mine. I've also seen a leather wrap 805 wheel with a 4/70 date code.
