66 speedo advice please?

Hi, my 66 911 has a working odometer, but the speedometer is not working. Does this sound like a problem at the speedometer end or the tranny end? How do I get this fixed?

Thanks,
John

The '66 speedo is driven by a mechanical shaft. The drive comes off the nose of the transmission, goes forward through the tunnel, then loops out of the bottom of the trunk through a rubber grommet and feeds into the back of the speedometer.

The odometer is a geared movement that runs off the speedometer drive cable. Therefore, if the odometer is rolling, you know the cable is intact and working. If the needle doesn't move, it means something has gone wrong with the movement in the speedometer itself.

NH Speedo or Palo Alto Speedometer are both good places to fix this for you. I note that Pelican does also offer this rebuild service.

Hi John
Thanks for the information. I will persue one of the suggested rebuild services. I am slowly working out all the kinks on my car.
John
