Odd Carrera 3.2 heater problem
My US model 87 car with manual heater controls has developed an odd problem. First all 3 heater blowers stopped working one day, so I quickly checked all the fuses front and back (all OK) and found that there was power at the floor levers and the rear fuse box that supplies the relay, but not at the main blower. However, after a couple of days use they all started to work normally again (on and off). Next, after a long drive to the UK from Belgium where I live (winter, so with the heater on) I parked the car for a day and a half and when I got in (ignition still off) the footwell blowers (without the rear blower) were still running! Once started, the rear blower cut in as normal. On the train in the Eurotunnel, the footwell blowers also continued with the ignition off. I tapped the main blower control relay lightly and they stopped, but none of the blowers worked for the rest of my trip home to Brussels. Reading the wiring diagrams in my Bentley manual, I concluded that only a sticking main blower relay/control unit could cause this combination of symptoms since it is hot at all times and controls the footwell and rear blowers independently, despite various opinions here that the footwell blowers can only run with the main blower on. So, I ordered a new relay from Porsche and have now replaced it. But, stilll no blowers!! Any ideas?
