Porsche Crest 911 Super Carrera: THE Essential Companion

New book completely dedicated to the 911SC.....

anyone see this book yet? 1200 pics, 430pg.....seems like it should have some value to own. Especially cool is the fact that it covers the history of the 911SC/RS and RUF SCR. far as i know it is the only book that focuses entirely on the SC. Now you don't have to get all pissed when they skip from the 73 2.7RS directly to the 3.2 carrera like in ever other damn book!

Is this book recommended by the leadership of the SCWDP?

Super -- n., an article or a product of superior size, quality, or grade

Carrera -- n. (what more needs to be said?)

SC -- n., a superior 911

SC Targa -- n., even better

I thought SC was a warning on the engine lid that stood for "Seek Cover" when the airbox blew?

M F I W D P!

But seriously, I'm probably going to buy this book, Adrian did a great job on the 964 book.

It's those charming quirks that really make the SC the Super Carrera that it is.

The author's web site is here: http://www.adrianstreather.com

Go to this page http://www.adrianstreather.com/writings.htm and read some of his technical articles. His thoroughness and depth of knowledge makes Bruce Anderson look like Dr. Seuss.

...the stories of exploding CIS airboxes are highly overblown (pun intended). If the problem does exist, it can be solved by installing a highly complex, CNC machined plastic toilet flapper in the airbox, though Peter Zimmerman advises against them in 80-83 cars (Porsche changed the internal plumbing in 80 to "solve" the problem). I put one in my '81, then the car wouldn't start. After several hours of checking many things found that there was a slight gap in the back side of the epoxy. Closed it up and no problems since.

I like the cover shot, thanks for posting.

I have a question regarding the link provided by RallyJon to the author's article on SC wheels. My SC has Fuchs with the star pattern polished, (or maybe they're clear anodized). Since most SC's I've seen have black Fuchs with polished rims, I always wondered if mine are the original finish. The author mentions some Fuchs came with "black star - rim flange polished" and others "unvarnished - rim flange polished". By unvarnished does Streather mean polished/clear anodized or something else?

Thanks and sorry for the hijack. I'll be looking for the book.

Regards,

Markus

Cover shot might be the u.s. only weissach edition? the center caps are kinda chunky...
The book is probably great, A. Streather is a very thorough writer, BUT
if you only have $44 definitely buy the pop-off valve over the book.

Ordering a copy now...

A really nice and thorough book with lots of pictures. A lot of pelicans/rennlisters contributed. Highly recommended.

"Super Carrera????"

A misspelling - they meant Stupor...

Seriously, I'm sure he did a fine job on the book. And those are good solid cars that make excellent starter 911s.

Hey, for some of us, the Super Carrera is the alpha and omega.

What could possibly top an SC? An SDDC (Super De-Dooper Carrera)? Nah, too much like a purple dinosaur.
