mounting seats in 79sc

i recently picked up a pair of f/g omp race buckets and mounting brackets (thanks dan) and took the stock seats/sliders out and found myself in a pickle. the way that the mounting brackets are designed, when attached to the seat line up perfectly with the mounting points for the stock sliders. however, when mounted here, it is doubtfull that there would be enough room for my head+helmet to fit safely in the car (not to mention they are a little close to the dash for my taste). Concurrently there seems to be no way for me to get the new mounts down to the floor (about 3" below the stock mounting points) without cutting off these stock mounting shelves that are welded to the door sill area and the center tunnel. i am a little reluctant to do this in case i ever wanted to put my stock seats back into the car. if anyone has dealt with this issue i would greatly appreciate whatever help you could offer - or if you haven't but have an idea, that would be almost as good.
here are some pictures of what i am talking about showing the stock mounting points for the sliders and with the new mounts.

I cut the stock mounts off when I mounted my sparco Evo. I needed the headroom, but I don't see how you can mount the seat brackets to the stock mount and retain the headroom. You SHOULD be able to get the seat just a hair lower than the stock ones if you use the lowest holes, so if you fit w/ a helmet in the stock ones, you should w/ the new ones too. If you need to move them back, you may need to redrill the bottom holes.

Carefully prop the seat on the old mounts and see if you fit (w/o the sidemount brackets) - If you do, then you can fab a bracket to hold the seat in that position. Cutting, welding, and drilling are you friends
