Hi I'm thinking of shipping a early 911 (pre 73) from Australia to Hong Kong as I cannot source on locally.
It get fairly hot in Hong Kong in summer, Q. If i cannot find one in Oz with Air conditioning - is it difficult to fit some form of after market AC? Thanks, Chris. |

Chris,
Dont bother in trying to get an Oz early 911 with a/c that actually works. For most of the few attempts to do this excercise from local shops (butchers) it is/was hard to tell if the system was even on or not(ask me how I know) Factory RHD units were not readily available here until the mid '70s and were not all that sucessful due to the differences in the bulkhead and front pass side footwell to the US 911s. The original 901 was not designed with a/c in mind in 1963,nor even with a good ventilation system.Look at the Toyotas of the that era ! Sorry to be a bit negative, but I am trying to give you some of the bad news before you part with your HK$$$. In Sydney,we just roll the windows down even further ! Cheers, Dennis. ![]()

Adding my Oregon two-bits. I had a (purchased new) 1970 911T
with "factory air"...well, at least it was written on the sticker as such. It worked perfectly well as long as the outside air temp was around 72 degrees f. On an 80 degree day, it would cool the air inside the car another 5 degrees at best. In other words, it was a horrible system, and simply not worth the butchery performed on the body to install it. If the 911 is pre bumper car, I would strongly suggest abandoning air conditioning. Maybe there are aftermarket systems today that are better. I hope so.
