Replacing the Headliner...Just How Tough Is It?
 

Well, the last restoration project I have on my 1973.5T with a sunroof is replacement of the headliner. I have received quotes from $300 to $2000 with everything in between! I have read Waynes 101 Projects on the subject several times and wonder if I, the not so average home mechanic, who never removed a window seal in my life, can tackle this.

Can any of you folks who have replaced 911 headliners provide some of your experiences, good, bad or ugly? Its a costly endeavor for a shop to do the work and its a challenge looking me in the face every day. Its time I replaced this 30+ year old headliner and take it to the Antiques Road Show!

Suggestions? Tools? Successes? Issues?

I haven't done it yet, but it is on the list of to do items. I have to take the windows out for a repaint anyway. Might as well do it while the windows are out right?

If you have patience, it is not too bad. Here is a link to a post I did that shows some pics and some description of how I did mine.

It's not that hard. Need to have all the glass out however. Get a couple of boxes of the black (office depot) paper clips. I used the 3M adhesive in a tube.

Replacing the headliner = not too bad, maybe 5/10 difficulty (be patient).

Removing and reinstalling all glass = sucks, big time.

Some educated guesses, as I did mine all myself: If glass is all out, cost from 3rd party should be couple hundred dollars (guessing 3 hr job for a pro). If the glass is not out, add another $500 to the job.
