CIS adjustment post SSI install on SC?
 

Just installed some serious bling and I now I need to make a CIS adjustment.

My car is an '82 SC, I installed a pair of SSIs with a dual in dual out SS Dansk muffler. I also changed the necessary oil lines and installed one of those new intake covers that was designed by a Pelican Board Memeber.

So here is the question. Before the install it was idleing right around 850. Now it is idleing at 1150. So, I don't think i need to adjust the idle screw I am assuming that I need to adjust the mixture. The exhuast smells really rich. So, I am assuming that I need to lean it out. Is this the case, am I running rich and if so which way do I turn the mixture screw?

Is your OX sensor still connected?
Adjust the idle screw first (Big slotted screw, left side throttle body) before touching the mixture.
It is possible that the hole in the FD for the mixture adjustment screw in your '82 has a lead plug which needs to be drilled out to get at the screw. It cannot be drilled with the engine in place.
Do you have this plug in the FD?

Thanks for the reply, No the plug is not in my FD. I was just outside messing with it and did not read your post until right now. I seem to have it idling okay for right now. But it is hard to tell if it is lean or rich. I wish I would have tried what you said but now it is to late. Maybe I will try to turn it back to where it was and mess with the Idle screw.

If it's running too lean, it will backfire when it's cold so I would try and adjust it back to where it was. If you don't it could damage your box.

You can set the mixture pretty close with this:
Engine is warmed up, meaning: nice and hot, use the 3mm Allen key and go a LITTLE cw (Rich) until the idle gets rough.
Now go ccw (Lean) until the idle gets rough again.
The right setting is in the middle of these 2 positions.
Remember, it takes only very small movements on the adjustment screw and the right setting involves the idle speed adjustment as well.

Of course, the valve clearance has to be right, and the timing has to be at 5deg BTDC. And no vacuum leaks anywhere.
