First driving impressions SC vs Carrera
Well as some of you know, my son and I are off on a new project. We purchased an '80 SC with PMOs, MSD, Monty w/SSIs and are going to make her a track mostly car.
After lubing up the sticking linkage the car is running very nice. The PMOs are AWESOME!!!! Fantastic throttle response and oh...that sound! I took the SC around the block and WOW this little bastrd goes like stink! There is a considerable difference in how fast it revs up. The '85 TL has the down low grunt but the SC takes off NOW! I'm sure there is a considerable weight difference as well but this is the first 3.0 I've owned and I am impressed. Today starts the diet plan.....out with all unnecessary items! Thanks for listening.

PMO's...to go further...are modern renditions of Webers with updates....
I don't think SC's are "considerably" lighter than 3.2 Carrera's especially when comparing similar g'boxes. I think maybe 100-150 lbs. - Wil

My "new" SC has no AC, much lighter seats, no FI, no cat and is not a Turbolook. I would estimate it's about 200lbs lighter.
Just pulled the rear bumper to loose the rubber bumper pads fill the holes and smooth out to a clean look. Plus it's lighter! This lightweight thing is addictive!

"modern renditions of Webers with updates...."
- All praise Richard Parr... They have a web site that details some of the features. The PMOs rank right up there with the SSIs (John Daniels), and the Wevo stuff (Hayden ___). Then there's Chuck Moreland/Elephant, and a bunch of smaller, craft type places. Who'd I leave out? We are fortunate to have some really great aftermarket items for our cars. I don't hink any other make can say that. Fcars are too rare, and VWs, Mustangs, etc. don't have the people willing to spend enough to support high quality aftermarket items. Exception for Gene Berg....

for NY65912:
As to weight...you can't just estimate.... I had my 85 Carrera with 1/2 tank of fuel and fully "wet" with all lubes and fluids on a scale...at 2760 lbs ( = 1254 Kg)...fully stock with all A/C and such in-place. I weighed the (stock) power/heated seats and they were like 55 lbs each. Some Sparco or FK shell buckets at 15 lbs each (or so)..alone could save 75-80 lbs.... So..no guessing allowed !!... the Tech Spec books say a Carrera weighs 1210 Kg....and the Tech Spec books for an 83 SC show two numbers....1160 Kg for ROW cars and 1250 Kg for USA cars. The widest spread says 50 kg difference between SC and Carrera... about 110 lbs, or roughly half of your estimate. For Randy...yep, wonderful isn't it with the suppliers we have for our cars ?
