oddysey battery and batt. relocation?
Anyone using the oddysey battery that Rennline recommends with there battery relocation kit.
I don't have much in the way of electrics on my car so don't require much in the way of a battery. Currently and for the past 7 yrs using the same optima red-top. ...heavy. Unforutunately it won't fit in their batt. relocation kit ...to the smugglers box. JZ

Banned but not out, yet..

The Optima I am using is so light weight, I didn't bother relocating it to the SB. I just created an L bracket and mounted in 1/3 of a battery box.

I'm using the Odyssey battery, and I haven't had any starting problems even with those horribly cold temperatures. (The coldest I started the car at thus far was 20F). I put mine in the smuggler's box with the Rennline kit, and I have a thread somewhere around here on it.

I am running it with the WEVO kit. No problems, with the new high torque starter on my 3.6 it works great!

I think I went WEVO cuz at the time the Rennline was suggesting using an Optima yellow top - which is just plain wrong for our cars. Stay away from deep cycle batteries. Unless of course your stereo is the main focus and you totally drain the battery each time you use the car and fully charge it back at the local car show.
I think Rennline now suggests the Odyssey and makes a kit for it. I called them and talked about the yellow top application and they didn't have any really good answers. Hayden has used the Miata battery before with great results and the WEVO fits perfect for that. I think there is a 2lb difference?? -Jeff

Mine is similar to Dweymer
![]() The wevo kit is a fiberglass tub that would contain any acid spills. And if you've ever had a battery boil into the trunk you can appreciate the value of that. So if you want a "kit" wevo is the clear winner. Maybe I am missing the point of the other kits???? just make (or buy) a simple strap and you are done.

I've had my Odyssey battery in my daily driver for a couple years now and I never had to fuss with it at all. Great product.

The Rennline has some nice bling with that drilled aluminum "door" I suppose I could bling-ify my factory door too. ...or just take it off.
Thanks guys, JZ

I installed two Odyssey batteries in the stock locations on both sides of the front fenders. Mounted with a metal strap similar to the stock mechanism with some spare parts from OSH. I can easily remove one for track events. However one battery would be more than enough for everyday driving. I guess somehow I just like the unique double battery setup.

Im on my 2nd Odyssey. Doesnt make since, but my first one died after my car was welded on
. Ive relocated mine to the smugglers box like a couple of the installs above, and more recently, re-relocated it back to the front drivers side corner of the car since I may be needing the smugglers box for AC.

I did a search and including shipping AJ USA was a great deal. I don't think Wayne sells them, if so soooooooory. They have a deal right now.
Support our host of course as I will do again soon, but some generic parts are better sourced outside.

What's the purpose of relocating the battery to the smuggler's box? Didn't the factory install them as far forward as possible in each fender to help balance the car?

Quote:
* Reduce overall weight (downsize from the huge battery or multiple batteries) * Make room up front for additional oil cooling in the fenders * Reduce polar moment by moving weight towards the center of the car -- makes the car turn quicker * Bling? Possible downsides (as you mentioned): * Weight is moved higher (minor amount of weight and minor height diff) * The COG is shifted rearward because of the potentially significant reduction of weight up front * Less cranking power or battery reserves (on a track car, who cares, on a street car this could be an issue)
