Hi, my name is Steve, and I'll officially be broke for the rest of my life now.
So, I finally got around to going to Brumos U and I think I'm in for a diet consisting solely of Ramen from now on. They do a slalom drill, and a throttle steer drill. 1 ride with the instructor driving, 1 ride w/ instructor while you drive, then 2-4 runs through solo. Then they put it all together on a short course where we got a couple runs then 2 timed runs stopping in a box of cones - time stops when front of car enters box, 5 sec penalty if you don't come to a stop w/in the box.
The dude that teaches it showed up in this thing. I can't quite remember what his name was, but they told us he knew what he was talking about. ![]() ![]() Me with the "Tongue of Concentration": ![]() Here's the field that showed up - notice a C4S, an '03 GT2, a bunch of Carerra 2's, and a bunch more Boxster(S)s: ![]() Waiting to go out for my first timed run: ![]() And the results: ![]() Turned in the best time on the first run, then missed the stop box by 3 inches to give away 3rd overall on the second run. Anyway, as soon as I get up to DC, I will be anxiously awaiting spring so that I can start doing AX/DE as much as is humanly possible until I have to resort to selling plasma and sperm to afford it.

I'm envious. First you get to go to that school and second you get paid for sperm! All these years and nada.

Oh yeah, I forgot the best part. We got 2 laps with Hurley in the #59 around a much more high speed part of the course....that was friggin' cool!!!
Noah - having been weened on motorcycle racing, I definitely know what my wallet is in for. The real question is how long can I avoid selling one (or both) cars in order to buy a track monster.

Was that at the 1.6 mile road course at Gainesville? I heard that's where Brumos does this stuff.

Love the post. Wish I were you. Putting two kids through the university right now, so I have to use a little financial restraint or I'd have a dedicated track car too (and wifey never'd see me much). Speaking of restraints, great shot of Hurley on the binders. I did some laps with him last year at Willow Springs (big track) in a 997S. Smoooooth. Did you see his hands? A super light touch on the wheel but friggin' hard on the brakes ... er, trail brake, that is.

I will be running at the Gainesville track this Saturday for the Rennstock event. It will be my first time at that track and will be my first high speed event, I've been doing autocross to date. I can't wait.

Bob - the first lap I was looking outside and laughing hysterically, then I remembered what I was REALLY there for and watched his feet for a few corners to try and figure out what this whole "heel-toe" thing is all about.
rfuerst - I was seriously thinking about going to Rennstock, but I'll be on my way up (or should be) to DC that weekend. Noah - yeah, I know...it's inevitable, I'm just hoping I win the lottery before then. Looking forward to getting in with another bunch of crack, I mean track, addicts.

The class was free w/ purchase...so, about $50K
![]() But the real details are that the class is free to anyone who buys a new or used Porsche from Brumos. It's put on every one to two months, and Hurley is always there. I don't think they will let people who don't buy from them do it for a fee (but you can always ask), but Hurley does teach the Porsche Driving Experience at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham - of course that's like $3K for two days. ![]() The class went from 0830 to about 1600, and consisted of 3 skill drills, then time trials, then a few runs on the drag strip. They provide everything, all you gotta do is show up with gas - there was even a guy who had driven his Carrera down from NY to do the class. You would think that they'd make up for the price of the class in what you pay for the car, but with the deal I've gotten on the 2 I've bought, they're definitely not making it off of me. I guess as a racing dealership, they've got all the logistics in place to make it real easy to do. Maybe they do it for the customer service aspect of it (gasp!), but it looked like it was a hell of a lot of fun for them, too!!! I told 'em after seeing first hand how the Carreras launch, I just might have to get one of those in a few years... They said a lot of folks from out of town will schedule their pickup for the same weekend as the class; pick up their new car, go drive it with Hurley the next day, then drive it home to wherever.

It's too bad the Rennstock Track space is filled up or you could go out and run laps out there all day long. They are going to have up to 45 min. on the track per driver. Was quite a steal for $75, but I guess its all filled up now.
