915 trans rebuild list?

I am planning to rebuild my transmission. I hear a strong noise, which after reading many posts hear I aasociate with bearings being worn.

Quote from JW which desribes my problem perfectly:

"that's your typical mainshaft bearing noise. car stopped, clutch engaged, idling in neutral, noisy, push in clutch, noise decreases or goes away"

I don't have any problems with shifting, no grinding at all, so i wonder if I should replace anything other than the bearings.

I have never done a trans rebuild before, so I am not sure which parts i should get. Can anyone help me with a parts list for this job? (assuming that I will replace only the bearings)

Thanks

This has been covered before. Try a search. Here is a good thread to start with. It gives about as much info as you could hope for from a thread about rebuilding a transmission.

Thanks Ed. Yeah, i did quiet some reading but I am still confuse about the parts that i will need. Which bearings i have to get? Which seals, and so on.

The situation is a little bit complicate. I will be moving out of the US at the end of the month...going to Guatemala. I just finish a 7 months long project on my car including engine swap, widebody kit, paint job, etc, etc.

But, I need to rebuild the trans. I will not have time to do it before leaving, so I am planning to buy the parts here and take them to do the rebuild once in there. I don't expect to have too much Porsche parts availability in Guatemala, and prices will be much higher.

So, I would like to have the must-have parts list for a rebuild to take from here.

Thanks,

Mario
