Has anyone ever put a Costco/Kirkland Battery in a 3.2 Carrera? Does it fit properly?

Don't be cheap, throw in an Optima and not worry about it for a long time.

I haven't but I will never put Costco/Kirkland Brand Tires on any car I ever own again. My first car (an 86 Chevy) had a set and the tires would slip and slide all over the place in the rain.

Didn't even know that Costco sells their own brand of tires.

I put a costco battery in mine. For $34 I can replace them regularly. I bought the smallest, lightest they make. We'll see if I'm the fool.

When I was looking to buy, I test drove an 84 911 targa where the owner told me that he had put a Canadian Tire (Canadian brand) battery in his car. It blew out all the electrics and the computer "brain" had to be replaced. Luckily for him, Canadian Tire accepted responsibility and paid for the repairs. You may not be as lucky with Costco (my firm does their litigation work) so don't cheap out.

The Optima Red Top is smaller than the oem batt, it specs almost the same (880CCA?) & is definitely lighter. Fabricate a plate to mount the new batt so it fits the in-place clamp system. Use a 15" neg cable to reach that terminal, slid to the rear a few inches.

For a technical group, this thread can do better than "does brand X fit"..
??? We need to talk specific sizes. The factory Carrera battery is huge, a group size 49 ( aka 98). The next smaller also fits ( group size 41 or 43 , I believe...aka 93). The car has three holes spaced on the floor to allow three different sized ( length) batteries to be used where the forward hold-down screws in. Oh...BTW....do search...all these points plus more specific details on size groups, and actual measurements...are in these threads, ( I posted several myself)...but you gotta try and look. There are also several good posts about Optimas and why they're considered good. Also some posts about normal battery venting....very close to electricals ( corrosion) and acid spill ( RIGHT OVER the front suspension pivot !)..... Optimas don't vent. Yeah...plenty of good stuff in the archives..... Wil

....and how to revive Optima batteries when they go into "hibernation"....
BTW, I'm sure Kirkland batteries are made by a large maker...I wouldn't think there would be anything wrong if the specs are up to snuff. Also, I believe their tires are made by Michelin.

Why Optima?
I have had my red top in my car for around 7 years. I even let it sit for 1 1/2 or 2 years while I had the engine trans out. When I re-installed, no charging of the battery or anything was necessary to crank the old beast back to life. Further, I chose it AFTER I WAS FORCED TO REPLACE MY FRONT PAN DUE TO EXCESSIVE CORROSION DUE TO BATTERY ACID. so 2 points. 1. they don't leak. 2. they last a long time. All this being said, I am thinking of moving the battery to the smugglers box for better weight distribution but I don't think the optima red will fit there!

![]() Coldstart -- it's most likely better that you didn't buy that car since there's a good chance the owner had done other stupid stuff to the car too. "It's a poor craftsman who blames his tools"
