what to do with 2.7
Merry Christmas everyone, here is my situation, they have my 2.7 out of the car to repair oil leaks over the winter and who knows what else,I happened upon a nice set of webber carbs on a parts car that have cost me nothing.I have read that it is not worth changing to carbs if you have to buy them but what would you do in this situation and what else would the motor need to go with them.the parts car has a 2.0 so I don't think I can use anything off it except for the early heat exchangers, hopefully they will clean up nice, also trying not too spend a lot of money, suggestions please or should I leave it the way it is and sell the 2.0 with the carbs?thanks again,Marty

sell 2.0 with carbs and buy Tbitz EFI Kit. Loads more power and reliability. Just my .02

The big benefit of carbs is throttle response, and the ability to run a more agressive cam than with CIS. I am not at all familiar with carbs but also have a 2.7, and a free set of webbers; so was planning the same swap. I am going to run an sc profile cam. If you need to change pistons/cylinders you can get a hotter cam because the CIS piston domes interfere with many cams. BTW, if you do sell, the carbs will pull more alone than with the whole engine. A lot of people are looking for webbers, not as many want whole engines.

I'd go with a more performance oriented cam, some early style heat exchangers (e.g. SSI), and those carbs. Sounds like a fun little motor, if you don't have to deal with emissions or bad gas mileage.

Check with John Doherty(sp?): camgrinder, I think you can run up to a 964 profile, but it is waaaaay close. He will steer you in the right direction for a cam.

I was in a similar situation. I have a 2.0 and a 2.7; I built myself a 2.7 RS spec engine on webers... I wanted period looking, and the RS spec engine is fantastic. You'll need to change pistons and cams in addition to the webers.

I went with JE pistons and E cams in my 2.7L. If you have to change pistons, I would spring for new ones, or buy a 2.7 Carrera set of pistons & cylinders. They can be found for not too much. One drawback with JEs are you need nikasil cylinders. Good combination but a bit spendy.

Martin, do a search on tbitz racing and look at the kit. Its only 1600.00 and comes with everything you need. It is adjustable enough to handle any cams that can fit in your 2.7. It added about 20 hp on mine and it runs and drives like a modern day car. It also cleans the entire engine comartment up and gets better fuel mileage. I do not have any interest in tonys company, but I have the kit and I am a believer.
