Question Testing the Motronic ICV/ISV?

I checked the ohmage between the two outside pins and the centre pin on the ICV/ISV and it measures 20 ohms.

I read in historical posts that this is what it's suppose to be, however, does it necessarily mean the ICV is 100% OK?

Could the ICV still be faulty but have proper resistance values?

I would take it off, clean thoroughly, make sure it can open & close smoothly, put it back in and see where you stand. If your having problems with it that's the first thing I would do.

What makes you think it's faulty? The Bentley has some good test procedures for this part; do you have it?

I only suspect it's faulty because the engine won't idle and dies after 3-5 seconds.

I checked ignition, fuel pressure, compression, AFM etc and they all look OK. Only other thing affecting idle is the ICV or a big vacuum leak somewhere

No I don't have the Bentley manual........... yet!

EDIT: Oh, I tried banging on the ICV with a wrench whilst the car was idling. Made no difference too. Couldn't be THAT siezed up, right?

I would also check the Throttle position microswitch.

Or check the o2 sensor. I cleaned my ICV and replaced my o2. That fixed my idle problem. How many miles on your sensor?

Don't forget to try the age old Carrera favorite leak point. The intake manifold bolts are notorious for coming loose. I routinely tighten mine. Use the intake cleaner to spray around the base of the intake to see if the idle changes. Mine did.

DonMo has a good suggestion, but you would want to take the ISV out of the picture before doing this though...

Yes I'm considering this too, however, from what I've read from John Walker's posts, many of these blown out/sucked in inlet manifold gaskets are the bottom ones, which is too low below the fan shroud for the carb cleaner to reach.

I'll rule out the ICV completely fist before removing my whole intake

You might try just retorquing the intake bolts and see if that will cure the leak...

But probably not.

Yeh I tried that but it didn't make much difference at all.

Might as well rip off the whole intake and do all 12, just to be 100% sure

That's what I would do... Don't know how tough that is with the engine in the car. On my SC it was a beeotch...
