What To Do With A Grand?

should be closing a sales deal sometime in jan. and am gonna take a thousand of it for a few needs and a fun thing or two. right now the list is like this: (88 carrera coupe)

clean and repack cv's (MAINTENANCE)

replace and weld in new sway bar mounts (CRACKED)

put in wevo engine mounts (200) (I WANT TO)

steve wong chip (300+) (I SIMPLY HAVE TO!)

chin spoiler (depends on if i can find a "clean-ish" one- usually they're jacked up so who knows--- if not our host has one for what 2 something?) (CANT RUN THE TAIL I SNAGGED ON EBAY WITHOUT ONE!)

that cover my thousand bucks- any thoughts?

OTHER THAN THE NEEDED ITEMS ABOVE, WHAT WOULD YOU GUYS DO TO YOUR BABIES?

If your sway bar mounts are carcked I would say that should take top priority. I just had mine done on an 87 and it cost about $500 for parts and labor.

Didn't Wevo just introduce a replacement part for this?

Why would you have to weld in the Wevo engine mounts? They simply replace the originals.
I would spend the money on mechanical upgrades versus cosmetic. The lip spoiler being the only exception so you can run the rear tail.
I am hoping to be able to sepnd the same amount in the spring but mine is going to upgrade my braking system.

sway bar mount fix
chip
better brake pads

It really depends on how much you can do yourself to save on the labor.

If I was going to spend that I would go with assuming you car is stock,

Fix the swaybar mount
t bars front and rear
better brake pads
steering rack bushings
lower it

then start looking at sways, better shocks, and a chip.

sorry I don't know your car enough to give better advice.

as far as the welding i mis-typed- i meant we need to weld in the sway bar mount fix--(i edited it!)--- my car (88 coupe with 67k) is stock other than the bilsteins, lowered, and im running 255's in the rear and 225's up front.

i will be doing most of the work myself and if i had a few more bucks id do bigger brakes but i don't have the bucks now. If i had more than that id do ssi's! im an aggressive street driver but not a crazy a**hole so as to put others in danger. i plan on taking my car to de's and some track eventually but don't want to go overboard tracking it out as it's my semi-daily driver.

sway bar up front interests me as i do a good amount of twisty canyon runs here in los angeles.

it's my first p-car (after several other sports cars in my 20's) and i love my 911 ten times more than anything in the past. in fact, i don't even care about any other cars anymore . . . at all. after 4 years of daily reading and staring im in one- im hooked for life and just looking to make my first upgrades as the other few adjustments were made my po--

other thoughts? thanks guys

there are many that would disagree but for 1,000bucks there is little you could do that you would see as a significant improvement unless you regularly track the car. these cars were pretty well engineered (welcome flame) but i would suggest to improve the cosmetics or drivability of the car. a 930 wheel or corner balancing on even great alignment or nice breaks or shift bushings (don't know about on a hydraulic car) will do wonders for you every time you get into the car and drive itl/ but the most tactile upgrade i ever did was the swepco 201 in the trans. make a 10 year plan and then add to it and adjust it. you won't be let down...

Suspension bushings. If yours are original, you'll be amazed at how the car feels afterward. Single best improvement I've made, out of many thou$ands spent.

Take the car and $1000, get 2 girls for 2 hours and stay at a nice hotel. Should run about a grand. You will remember it forever!

Or....Have some weltmeister sway bars put on the car. With the parts, welding and install, you're in for about a grand. Sounds like you need to do this anyway.

The girls you don't need but......

Sebring77's advice is hard to beat.

Personally, if you gave *me* a grand (hint, hint) and I was in your position, I would buy some polybronze bushings (like efhughes says) and fix the car up (clean, clean, clean, nothing broken, etc.).

Other cool things are Bilstein Sport shocks and T-bars, a front strut brace and a professional alignment that's a little more aggressive.

Steve W chip and SSI exhaust/2-in muffler are GREAT.

Good luck!

Scott

JohnCalos,
Hello. Same here. LA, don't care to look at any other sport cars anymore (at this point of time). Who know the future, but now I love my car eventhough knowing several imperfects exist there.

Sebring77,
I wouldn't do that for a k.
I would buy a flight ticket to thailand. Get 5 girl at the same time, and a nice hotel for the wholeee night long to command them want I want. Well, they will most likely already know what I want.
List go on and on... for $1k........

you guys are killing me with all the prostitute talk- i guess there are no women on this board right now or im sure we'd hear it! plus, how do you know im not some 68 year old priest who just loves porsches? ok, im 30 and an ex girl hound but now ive got a good one and im sticking with her- and my 911. and maybe a 356 down the line-- ok, and a 73rs- sure, ill take a 993tt too- not really a water cooled kinda guy but a 997 could fit in somewhere- for now i think a grand plus a little would go well towards polybronze bushings, wevo mounts, taking care of cracked sway bar mounts, and a sw chip - i think . . . my car is pretty freakin clean overall and i have taken care of most little details and now im on to the mad world of upgrades!
