K&N or stock air filter on my 87

Is it worth going with the K&N cone filter and losing the stock air filter set up? will I really notice any HP? Deep sound? Ads true or Hype? I am sure there are threads on this, but humor me please.
Thanks in advance.

Everything I read indicates that there is no HP to be found here. You will gain some intake noise, and a little elbow room when working in that corner of the engine compartment.

My advice is worth what you paid for it.

Keep the stock air filter setup. However, you may want to consider lowering your car...

Thanks Natog, that's what I was thinking. Still the elbow room is nice if nothing is actually bad about the switch. Intake noise might be kinda fun too!

Thanks, I had an apointment to lower it. All my 911s have been lowered. After steam cleaning the wheel wells, they were so clean I am going to show them off for a while. Also took off the 16 7&8's in a backdating effort. The car looks so much like an early unmolested Carrera like this, I think I'll just keep it this way for awhile. I'm considering backdating the front valance and fogs, seats (found a really cool pair of OEM plaid covers for a 75 Euro), Rear bumperettes (allready have a set w/bumper in the rafters) and maybe even the headlights. What I would really like to do is delete the mirrors and go with single driver side stainless 74, but I just don't want to do any paint work to this 100% original paint car that I can't undo later (like the ducktail and valance).

I hear no HP gain because the area is still small, only dust. I also hear no noise, since my muffler is so lound. I hear no.... whatever, it cost only twice or 3 times more but you can reuse it. So think about it as 3 times you relpace a normal paper filter. The only think I am worry is it letting dust into the engine.

Had one, and recently went back to the stock airbox w/ a homemade "cup" lid-just as much room, and no K&N worries, plus I lost the whistle at part throttle.

There are no gains to be made on the intake of the stock Carreras. Work on the other end of the airflow equation. I did, however, put a "drilled" stock airbox cover on mine that gives a nice growl under WOT.

I ran K&N on the CIS awhile ago. Putting a layer of axle grease on the rubber seal kept out any dirt. I also feel that they should be reoiled every 10k mi.
