Cracked fan shroud

I pulled my alternator out for rebuild and noticed that two of the four support legs on the fan shroud have significant cracks.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Can the magnesium shroud be welded to repair the cracks? I know it's possible, but can it be done reliably?

How much would a good used shroud set me back if a weld repair were to fail?

Is the fan Al or Mg? That wasn't covered on the fan/shroud powdercoating thread...

Hopefully, some attentive moderator will delete the other TWO postings of this (not worth three versions) thread.

I tried, but it won't let me...
