What does this part do?
On my 86 911 targa, my battery tested bad, so I went to Autozone and they replaced under warrenty. They gave a longer one with more cranking amps that said is the correct one for my Porsche. It is about 14 inches long, where the old on was about 10. Needless to say, it fit like a glove. Now,the problem is with a small black box right in front of the battery that has a funnel for fresh air going towards the front, and a squirrel cage motor inside a plastic box connected to a wire. Underneath, a small condenser with fins. My question is, what is this. Is it a part of the air conditioning? If it is, I dont need it because my air is not hooked up, (targa ya know). My camera didnt work, so no pics, but thanks for any help.

Its the fan for the front a/c condenser. Air in thru the hole in the front and out downwards through the condenser.

Thanks, but no pics. I'll check the lines to the unit sunday, and they are probably from the air side of the car. Again, thanks for the input.

If you're a/c is non functional, pull this puppy out. It is held in with four screws. I cut a piece of sheet metal to patch the hole it left in the floor and used the four holes to hold it down. Then I sprayed some 3M undercoating over it. Done.
These things are worth a little bit in the classifieds, but no one will want one until spring. |
