Authority Chip for '88-'89 Carrera?
Hi everyone,
I have a 1989 Carrera and I was thinking of getting an Authority ECU Chip. Has anyone had any experience with this? Does it give the +15-20 hp jump it indicates? Where is the ECU? Is it easy to open? Is it easy to remove the factory chip? Is it easy to re-install the factory chip if I do not like the after-market chip? Thanks, Luis

Get a Steve Wong chip from Pelican. The reviews on them are much better. Plus Steve is in the L.A. area. Do a search on steve wong or go to 911chips.com. Yes, they're easy to replace, unless your car is different from my 84, its the silver box under the drivers seat. Steve includes directions, and it takes about 15 minutes.

Use the search for discussions on the subject of chips....there may not be many though

I have the Autothority chip in my 88. I'd say all power estimates from chipping are optimistic, though I'm sure some here have the dyno charts to argue otherwise. I wouldn't count on that chip or others to give you a huge boost alone. But in conjunction with other mods, like freer flowing exhaust and intake, not to mention more radical ones like compression change and cams, the Authothority chip seems helpful and is definitely more aggressive than stock.
By the way, to the best of my knowledge Autothority is no more -- rather, their equipment, stock, personnel and goodwill were bought out by Pitstop Performance Tuning, Alexandria, Va. Minh and his folks there know what they are doing with Porsche engines.

Hi Bill,
Turns out a fella on Ebay has an Autothority chip for '88-89 and will let me have it for $86. Good price. I wanted to keep my car pretty stock (except for a chip, new exhaust and new intake). Do you think it is even worth the 1 hour installation? Thanks, Luis

Second the recommendation to get a Steve Wong chip. He is well known on this forum and does an excellent job. He will make a chip for YOU and YOUR CAR, not a generic chip for everyone. As well he will stand by the chip and modify it if needed at a later time.
Was very happy with the chip he did for my 3.2. Joe A

Yes, I'd go for it at that price. It won't take an hour to install, either.
