Starter Ring, which way to re-mount
I am ready to put my engine back in the car after clutch replacement on my 85 Carrera 3.2 :D . My pressure plate and flywheel are different than before, so I have a couple rookie questions :rolleyes:
Which way does the starter ring mount onto the pressure plate? Flat face on transmission side or flywheel side? Also, right now the starter ring and flywheel notches do not seem to line up perfectly. Would rotating (edit : the ring or pp or both) 120 degrees help line them up? -Thanks for all the help with first engine drop! -Matt |

Thanks, I've got it on the right way then.
Unfortunately I still can't get the ring teeth to match the flywheel teeth all the way around. Should I be concerned? It looks like from the wear on the teeth of the starter gear (little guy) that it is only long enough to use one or the other (ring teeth or flywheel teeth). Any comments? Sorry for the paranoia, but I want to make sure everything is right before re-installation. -Matt |

Thanks for trying to help. Both my new and old flywheels have teeth, non-removable ones. There is also a starter ring that mounts to the pp, hence the 2 rows of teeth. Here is a pic of the flywheel.

the ring of teeth toward the engine only relate to the flywheel sensors, they don't match up to the starter teeth.

Just make sure you don't do like I did and install the engine and tranny and forget to install the starter ring gear!
