Carfax only runs for cars built in 1981 or later. And the third digit is a 0 (zero).

Don,
According to my manuals I have an '81.
Here's what I'm going by.

That's my conflict. My title says it's an '80, but my VIN (too me) appears to be an '81. I'm I reading something wrong?

I think Don may be off by a year. AFAIK Carfax only has 82 and newer, which as I understand it is the year VINs became standardized across the industry. Your VIN comes up invalid, even after changing it to WP0 (zero).

Nope, Carfax does 81 and newer. I have a carfax for my car. 1981 is the start of the standardized 17 digit VIN.

Hey SpeedracerIndy,
Where is your VIN stamped in the trunk area on your '81? Looking into the trunk, on the left side or toward the middle? Also, is the VIN stamped somewhere else on the chassis?
I bought this as a bare, stripped chassis.

My VIN is stamped in the middle of the trunk just below the smugglers box, and there is also a plate on the left (passengers) side of the trunk.

10th digit (B) is the yr, 1981...
your main problem may be that it's a Euro/ROW car and Carfax/Autocheck etc don't always recognize them, also, as a grey market car there is likely less info available

Probably true. Although, my car is a Euro/RoW and I have a carfax with a fairly extensive history. That is probably because my car was imported to the US fairly early in its life though.
