What is this?

I was installing new deck lid struts in my 87 911 and saw this little connector sitting all alone in the engine compartment? What is it? Should it be connected? You'll see it near the center of the image.

Thanks!
Patrick

Do you have an 02 sensor?

I have the same connector in my SC, I use it for a heated O2 sensor. I have no idea what is supposed to be used fror, maybe a rear window wiper or something?

Thanks. I'll check out the possibility of the O2 sensor. I am thinking that maybe it is for something like a rear wiper though since I have a cabriolet and it would make sense that I not have one. Hmmm...

It could be heater blower, I thought the O2 was a round connector.

The connector is for a thermovalve. My car came without the thermovalve, however, the connector is there.

The original poster has an 87...hence a DME car. Fireant, you have a CIS car..... this is not a thermovalve...connected or not.

trace the line from the 02 sensor and see if this is that connector. Usually has a Mercedes-Benz star on it ( go figure ! ) .

Arrow connector

That looks exactly like the connector that plugs in back of the heater blower fan. You can't really see the 2 pins it plugs to; they are appx. at 10 o'clock when looking at the fan from the back. Maybe the fan seized up and someone unplugged the connector??

Thanks for all of the responses. I am going to go out and take a look again today. I just got my car back from having a new blower installed (the one in the front though) so maybe they forgot to hook it back up? I can't wait to solve this one. Again, thanks for all of the help!
