OEM air compressor location?

Can anyone tell me specifically where to find the compressor on my '85 Carrera? I thought it might be stashed in the front somewhere but was wrong. I read in another thread it might be stashed in a 'cubby hole' under the carpets behind the rear wheel well. Where is that and how do you get access to it? I looked but could not find an obvious access panel back there except the one above the tranny.

Thanks again.

Joe

air compressor?

Joe--

If you are refering to the A/C compressor, it is in the engine compartment, passenger side (very accessable). There is a belt running of the compressor to the crank pully.

Hope this helps.

Alan

I am thinking he may be referring to location of spare tire air compressor.

If so, where do they get stored on carerras and SCs?? Anyone know?

Yep, open the trunk. If you don't see it, it ain't there. Just go to Walmart and buy one for $10.00. Works just as well.

Or you can get one of these

For about $20 from www.twistedthrottle.com (search for "Sparrow"). It's so small that it fits in front of the spare tire, under the mat.

On a shelf in the garage is a good location. I replaced the spare and pump with a can of fix a flat. Never used it and hope not to.

Yeah, I was talking about the tire inflator - sorry for any confusion! I looked in the front trunk/hood and it was not there, but I did find a spray bottle of official factory Porsche window cleaner - formulated with heavy water left over from the German atomic program in the 40's, no doubt. Does anyone know where I can get factory OEM Porsche air to put in the tires? I believe that has an extra atom as well. Has anyone actually used that weird looking spare tire? Does the sidewall expand or what? Looks pretty dicey to me; think I'd call triple A instead! Hopefully I'll never need it - the brand new Toyo Proxes that came on the car look as if they'll be roadworthy for years.
Thanks to all you Porscheheads for your collective two cents in the last few months; added up they would make for a nice downpayment on a 917, maybe!

Merry Christmas too all, may your Porsches track tight!

Joe

PS - Happy Hannukah, too - may you never spin like a dreidel!
