Let's see all the Red SWB cars!

I'm working on some ideas for my '66 912, such as yellow Hella lenses for the headlamps and other ideas. I'm putting polished 15x6 fuchs on it. Let's see what others have done!

Absolutely beautiful 912! I'm prepping my '65 911 for paint right now (polo red). Hopefully it will turn out as nice as yours. Not to be a hungry vulture, but I'm looking for a set of early headlamp assemblies. If you're thinking of selling yours, please let me know. Thanks.

By the way, are your wipers original? Mine has black SWF wipers also. Apparently they're supposed to be silver but I'm begining to think some came from the factory black.

I'm not sure, I've been wondering the same thing. Most of the pics I've seen have been silver, but this car only has 39,XXX original miles, so more than likely these are the original wiper arms on the car. I don't have any extra headlight housings but there is a NOS set of them on ebay right now. Thanks for the compliment! The car looks better in the pics than it really is, the repaing isn't perfect, but it's good enough for a driver. Good luck on you '65!!

Michael from the pics your car looks stunning. Reminds me of my grandfathers old 68' 912. IMHO the chrome steel wheels look awesome!

Nice looking car.

My guess is that those are not the original wipers. In '66, the wipers parked on the starboard (passenger, in the USA) side of the car, and were painted silver. If you look at the picture of the '68S below, you can see that they were parked on the correct side- but in '68 the wipers switched to black. I could understand if a late '67 had the later wipers but not a '66.

Anyway, very nice car, I would leave it alone! Maybe get yourself some headlamp relays if you haven't already done so, and make sure every electrical connection in the car is up to snuff!

Good luck!

Matt, thanks for the compliment, I'm very excited about driving this next year!

Matt, I have other plans for a motor in a couple years. I'm planning on building a larger displacement type IV to drop in place of the original engine, which will be kept original and stored. That way I don't have to cut the car up to install the flat six and with enough displacement on a type IV 180 hp+ seems quite attainable. Plus that way my car will still have the better weight distribution of a 912. I may even eventually build something like Britain with a turbo!

John,
I am planning on adding relays when I install the Hella H4 sealed beam replacements. I'm keeping the stock headlight housings and lenses, I have a second set of lenses that will be yellow. I'm also installing some replica horn grill fog lamps from Scylla66. Thanks for the information on the wipers.

Mike,

Good luck with the engine, I cant wait to see the build up. With that kinda weight and that kinda power I am looking at some serious problems holding you off at the track.

BTW you should pic up this months Excellence, there is a SWEET 914 with a built 4 cylinder motor in there that was making some killer power.

Mike, I'm sure you've seen Raby's Type IV motors. Are you thinking of putting in one of his powerplants? Big HP.

Yeah, try this link. If it doesn't work Google Raby's Aircooled Technology.

Matt,

I have a subscription to Excellence, I was just reading about that 914 the other day. I need to learn to drive the car as fast as I can with the 102 hp it has now, then I can upgrade the motor and to to R-compound rubber and do some suspension upgrades. I'm working on carefully fitting a rollcage without cutting up any interior panels to complement the Corbeau Forza seats I'm getting from Jerry and the 5-point harnesses I'll have in the car for the T&T in April. I'm almost finished polishing the fuchs, then I can get my Hankook Ventus RS-2's mounted. I'm also doing a short shift kit and reverse lockout springs in the shifter, new shift bushings and vented front brakes with Ferodo DS2500 pads. It should be lots of fun on the track if not a bit slow on the straights. I'll try not to get run over by you or Bernie while you're screaming around the track in your hot rods!

I'm actually thinking it would be more fun to have a zero-bling stock-looking motor to smoke people with because then those with 911's not "in the know" would really feel sick! I've got to convince Jerry to bring the Bling-mobile out on the track!

Beautiful 912 Michael. Only 39k miles, amazing.

Just my humble opinion but I would be seriously tempted to leave it as is and maintain it. Nice and clean look, original steel wheels, looks great to me.

Is that passenger side mirror a factory option?
