1974/1975 911 2.7
Hi
I am about to commence an engine rebuild on an early 1975 registered 2.7 911 probably built in 74. Does anyone know what type of factory fitted pistons and cylinders are likely in the car? Are they reusable with a set of new rings? And if they have to be replaced what are the best 2.7 cylinders and piston replacement for road use? Thanks guys Niall

My 7R case has nickies, but I have a 75 S. The PO had the motor rebuilt at about 90K. The sleeves and pistons looked great when he
opened it up.

Niall:
Those 2.7's came with either 90 mm 8.5:1 Alusil or Nikasil P/C's and you'll have to inspect them to see which ones you have. In most cases, Alusil's are throwaways, but Nikasil's can be re-ringed if the piston ring lands are within spec and the skirts are not worn. If you need new P/C's, the only way to get is to get new Mahle Nikasil ones,... ![]()
