Need help adjusting air sensor plate
 

I'm having a difficult time getting adjusting the plate. When the holding bold is loose, the plate moves perfectly up and down even through the housing up against the rubber stopper. But when I start tighten down on the bold, the plate binds.

When tighten, the plate moves down no problem and doesn't bind, but on the occasion when the plate is pushed up against the rubber stopper (i.e., letting off after wide open throttle) it won't go down through the housing anymore and requires a bit of force.

I checked the plate and it doesn't seem warped. Also cleaned the arm and both sides of the washer to make sure everything is cleaned of debris.

I've read about the paper trick, but the paper is too thick to shim things up. Even tried aluminum foil and taking a scoth brite pad to clean around the edges of the plate and housing. What's the trick?

Sometimes the arm itself is warped and has to be bent to the correct shape. I think I would wait on doing that until all other options are exhausted.

But are you using the right paper? normal paper is too thick,
try using cigarette paper, yes the type we used when we did not have money to buy a 20 pack. Her in Norway a 20 pack cost´s about $11.8 :confused:

I have a mixture control unit that is in perfect condition that is for sale for $100. Let me know if you are interested. I can guarantee that it will fit that modified fuel head I sold you :).

When I have to adjust my mixture on my 1973.5T/CIS I have no option but to get one hand under the plate after removing the filter housing and holding it firm while turning the adjustment screw. I do not know if this helps or not, but thats the hassle I have with mine.

I finally got it adjusted. It turned out that the sensor plate gets a little warped when the bolt tightens down. So out of frustration, I applied force to push the plate through the housing. This actually straightened the plate which allowed the plate to move up and down through the housing w/o binding.
