Transmission Bushings
Hey I am kind of stuck. I am replacing my transmission bushings on my 82 911 SC. I am new to fixing my own car, so I need a little help. I got to the shift coupler bushings in the rear without any problem. Now I have the ones under the shift lever to replace. Now to remove the cylinder shaped "thingy", that is under the center console and has the shift lever going through it, I have to get under the carpet because the bolts are under the carpet. Now I must lift the carpet, however my AC switches are still attached to the center console and will not allow me to pull up the carpet. How do I unattach the AC switches? Or is there an easier way to go about this?
Thank you Kyle |

I did this on my 930 some time ago and had to pretty much completely disassemble my center console. Remove the screws that hold it to the tunnel, then you can remove the AC switches and the plastic carrier they mount to as a single unit. Take a close look at how things fit together as you are taking them apart, which will greatly simplify putting them back together when you're done.
The cylinder-shaped "thingy" bolts to the shifter. Remove the two bolts that hold it and the other three that hold the shifter to the floor, and you can remove the whole shifter, at which point you can replace the cup bushing that fits on the ball at the bottom of the shift lever as well as the cylinder bushing on the shift rod. Hopefully you put the transmission in a known position (e.g. second gear engaged) before you replaced the coupler. Otherwise you will have some trouble adjusting the shifter to engage the gears properly. |
