I would appreciate it if anybody can tell me what colour my 79 Targa is, the code on the body{304} shows it as Minerva Blue on the Paintscratch website but the sample shown looks completely wrong. I need the right code so I can get touchup for a stonechip on the hood. Thanks

red book lists 3 blues for 79
minerva blue metallic arrow blue petrol blue metallic i'm sure it isn't petrol and arrow isn't metallic so minerva is probably it problem is age, paint fades, that might explain why it doesn't match i have the same on my light green metallic 924 nothing matches the right one is to dark the one below it is to light

I concur about paintscratch or at least their current formulas for certain mixes. I have an '84 in Kiln Red which is a brick red metallic. I ordered from Paintscratch and when I got it, I found it was way off almost a purple shade.
I then had my local wrench call his body shop and had him mix me a pint of paint instead. It came out very similar to the paintscrath bottle. So the body shop finally took an image of the car to get an exact match. I wonder if some of the recipes have gotten screwed up over time. I'd have a body shop mix you up a pint. It's not much, if any, more than a littletouch up bottle and it should be a darn close match. Oh and by the way a buddy of mine has a Minerva Blue '79 and that's your color.

Fantastic looking targa, the wheels must have cost a fortune. Thanks for the heads up with regards to paintscratch.

I agree with Kilodawg's solution. The solution I found was having a local large body shop use their computer paint matcher and make a few ounces of what my 84' Carrera's zincmetallik paint looks like in the sun today in the appropriate DuPont mix. They put the camera right near the surface. Nice fresh paint, not that gloppy crap you find in the little pre-made tubes. Plus, you make a local connection you might need some day.

When you say the sample didn't match, did you brush it on something and let it dry? Paint often looks different wet.

the Paintscratch web site has a disclaimer that paint samples before 1980 may not be accurate. My '78 SC (now black) was originally Petrol Blue. When I viewed the color for the '78 SC, It was nowhere close. I went to '80 and got a better idea of what the color looked like.
BTW, I just purchased a touch-up set for my 1986 Mercedes from Paintscratch (Black Pearl). It matched perfectly. They seem like a quality supplier.

No, Luckily for me it was done when I bought it, so were the wheels. Hopefully, I will have the aero mirrors on before spring, I am just waiting for the gaskets which are on back order, so I have no idea when I will get them. I also need to have the mirrors sprayed...
So, Canada, let me know how you end up with your paint supplier search, and how you went about it. Thanks.
