OT Renault f1 V8 engine on Dyno

RS 24

Actually the RS24 was the 2004 V10 engine. It's hard to see in the views of the intakes in that video, but if you count the exhaust primaries you'll see 5 per bank. It also sounded like a V10.

The only 2006 V8 engine video that I've seen so far is the 2006 Cosworth V8. You can download it at the link in the center of the page, just below the notice of the passing of Keith Duckworth. :(

Duckworth was truely a giant of the race car engineering field (along with Dr. Porsche, Ferdenand Piech, Henry Ford, John Cooper and more recently Gordon Murrey and John Bernard). There isn't a 4-valve engine manufactured in the last 30 years that doesn't owe it's basic design to Duckworth -- including the Porsche 944S and S2, and the current crop of water cooled flat-6's. The Cosworth FVA and DFV were not the first 4-valve head engines -- those dated back to at least the 20's. But they were the first with the elegent solution of the narrow valve angle design. This design provided for a large valve area for strong HP, and a compact combustion chamber for efficient combustion and driveability.

The DFV racked up more F1 race wins then any other engine design -- and not for lack of competition. During it's time Ferrari, Matra, Eagle and others produced some good engines, but none were able to match the optimum compromise of the Cosworth DFV. It was strong, reliable and compact. And when it's F1 days were over, it morphed into a winning Indycar DFX engine.

It's somewhat ironic that Duckworth passed away on the eve of F1 returning to a V8 forumula just as Duckworth's DFV pioneered 39 years ago.

PS: Did anyone else notice that the Renault video quoted 160 db!!! Having stood next to the track at Montreal during some F1 sessions, I can believe it, but still... 160 db!
