seat belt guidance

hi all,

83 911 sc targa. very newly painted and rebuilt motor and trans...now tackling interior.

my drivers side seat belt is frayed and i was hoping that i could get some guidance/ideas on refurb.

i may opt for a good used set but i was wondering if my reels can have new belts installed? my project is WAY WAY over budget (didnt budget for motor and trans rebuild) so a few questions to see if dimes can be spent elsewhere!

also in the rear i was wondering if its possible to upgrade from the lap belts to something else. i was hoping to gt rid of the reels and just have the sliding adjustment type.

i looked at PEP but the site is down. future plans are to have the "little guy" back there in his car seat. looking for suitable safe upgrades to rear belts for his car seat and his growth.

please post pics if you have upgraded your rear belts.

kyle

I'm sure your old reels can have new belts installed. Most porsche shops can probably can take care of this or swap them out. There's plently of options, check our host for seat belts. Don't go cheap on belts to save $ for something purty.
One of the first things I did was add newer 3 point belts in the rear for my kids. It seemed to help justify the purchase. I can include a pic but it just looks like I think an 86 or so on the rear deck.
My 84 had threaded holes under the deck piece for the belt reels. I think on older cars the hole is not there & you'll have to drill. Pay attention to the placement.
Search belts and you'll find lots of good info.

get new webbing - don't risk your life and that of your child with something that loses strength from sun exposure....

Try www.peparts.com
They have the best price I could find on new p-car seatbelts. I definately would not skimp on the belts.

I bought new generic belts ($30) and replaced the hardware with the original Porsche hardware (just used the webbing and the new reels). Make sure to have it sawn together at a professional place (parachute shop etc..). You can also buy new webbing and recycle all the old hardware.
