Our latest Supercar project

Thought I would share with you car loving guys my husband's latest project. It is a Factory Five GTM Super Car. P-car content included as it has a G50-20 6-speed P-car transmission

Here is a shot from the F5 website showing their pre-production car:

Here are shots of our under construction Super Car:

Delivery Day

A lot of progress since delivery day including tearing a C5 Corvette apart:

The factory car recently under went wind tunnel testing with pretty impressive results: http://factoryfive.com/table/ffrkits/GTM/aerodynamicstest.html

That is nice! I'm glad to see that made it to production. I'll bet there are more than a few C5 donor cars around....

Just looked at the details, maybe it's not in production, it looks like your hubby is a guinea....er....Beta Builder.

yes, he is a beta builder The C5 wrecks are plentiful! We actually sold a couple things out of the carcass and now we have sold the entire thing to a race team. I will be happy to see it gone.

I recognized your husband's name when I looked at your other thread. Back before I bought my 911, I was about 3 seconds away from buying a FFR "Cobra". I'd spent many an hour researching and reading the FFR posts while recovering from back surgery.

My wife vetoed the build and insisted I buy a "built" car, as I'd built an airplane in our garage the year before....She never dreamed I could spread so many upgrades over so long a time since I got my 911

Well I hope you one day either buy a finished FFR or build one. They are a blast! We have one of the first kits every purchased from the company way back in 1996. We have built two completed Cobras plus another that is under construction and on hold while he builds the supercar. We are always doing upgrades and projects so that is the reason we built the big 30x50 shop. I grew weary of my daily driver never seeing the inside of the garage Now the 2 car attached garage is mine and the 911 and the daily driver share it. No projects allowed in there. He has enough room in the big shop.

Once in a while I even get him to work on the 911.......

It looks like factory five have gotten their act together. There was a time (less that 10 years ago) when they were considered to be the lowest point on the quality totem pole.
Their cobra kit was blasted by all the experts I talked to or read because of short cuts of quality and safety.

They have grown as a company BUT we have one of the first cobras and there are no short cuts in safety. The early fiberglass bodies had some quality control issues. There was an "expert" out there that took personal care to blast the company because they would not pay to get their name in a "so called unbias guide".

I think there is no question I'd choose FFR over the other kits available. I literally scanned the net for weeks while laid up, and IMO, they've done their homework from an engineering point, and their following (growing by the year) is rabid in their loyalty to the brand. Sounds kinda familiar....

i must say, i was seriously let down by the quality of the ff body on my cobra i build a while back. some of the seams were 1/4 inch off. the chassis was excellent-go for the powder coated chassis! by all means. thet may have imprved the quality of the body over the past few years though. i would seriously look into that.
