What Size MPSC?
 

I've decided to go with a set of Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires and I'm looking for some sizing advice. I have heard they seem to be a little undersized. I have 7.5x17 and 8.5x17 wheels. Are 225/45's and 245/40's correct or should I move up a little, say to 255/40's? Anyone with real world MPSC experience would be greatly appeciated.

I have 8's and 9's x 17. I chose to go with the 245.

Why?

-My car is relatively low horsepower (stock SC motor) and I felt the 20mm stagger is acceptable.
-MPSC's tend to prefer higher temps. I wanted to run them hotter than cooler.
-The less tire you can run the better. It has aero and unsprung weight benefits.

FYI, I have never run the 255 so I am not able to compare them back to back.

Which MPSC would be better on fat Carrera? I have 7&9s that I run 225/45 and 245/45 SO-3s but the rears are bald. I have the stock 6&7s. I was planning to move up Toyo-RA1s in 225/50 and 245/45 on the 7&9s but if the MPSC like heat would a set of 205/55 and 225/50 on the 6&7s be a similar performance alternative? The advantage would be to keep my 7&9s for the road and have a set of track wheels.

In those sizes they actually run on the wide side.

Considering the narrowness of the wheels those are good sizes.

If you go to a 255/40, the wheel will be on the narrow side and the gearing will be affected. Both adversely

I would rather have the performance benefit of the 7 & 9 on the track than the looks on the street.

MPSC certainly do want heat, either the MPSC or RA-1 can be used as a dual purpose tire.

If you do more DE than street then either would be a good choice.

If only occasional DEs why not something like the Advan Neovas or maybe PS2s

using R rubber on narrow wheels is counterproductive.
