Torsion Preload

I'm just about to rebuild my front suspension after a bushing overhaul, On strip down I forgot to note how many turns it took on the torsion pre load bolt before it came lose. I replaced the torsion endcap so that its about half way with the bottom ball joint tightened up, is there a standard amount of turns I should put into the bolt to pre load the torsion bar to get a basic setting for the height?

Thanks Steve

Stock torsions or larger?

You can't really go by number of turns, since the end cap can be indexed in many different spots. I usually go by the gap between the tip of the adjuster bolt, and where it touches.

With stock torsion bars, You probably want to start with the tips just making contact with the crossmember. You'll have to drive the car and let it settle, then re-adjust as needed.

I hesitate to give this kind of advice, since I believe that all cars should be corner-balanced afterwards.
