Unhappy Front Bumper Removal on 71

I am in the middle of trying to remove my front bumper. I have taken the two obvious bolts off ( one in front of each wheel ) , but where are the others?????

Look in the luggage compartment. Move the side carpets where they meet with the floor carpet and you will see two 13 mm bolt heads.

These locate the bumper - they arent far from the holes used to access the bumper over-riders.
You'll be surprised how heavy they are!

put your spare tire under the bumper, works great to support the bumper when you are working alone...and might prevent dropping it to the ground and denting the dang thing.

I'm trying to remove the front bumper on my 70. I got the bolts at the ends of the bumper, but the 2 on each side of the trunk are giving me trouble. 1 came out without any trouble, but the rest are just spinning.

When I look down in the horn grill opening I can see what appears to be a metal bracket, and inside that bracket are square nuts, like you have a battery clamps. The problem is that this bracket is bent, or in someway come loose such that those square nuts are just spinning.

Anyone got any suggestions on how to get these bolts out, and my bumper off?

thanks,

britt

Not sure if it's the same as my 72, but I was able to get an open end wrench up and behind the bracket in order to keep the nuts from spinning. If that doesn't work, you may be able to use a heavy screwdriver wedged into the bracket against the nut to keep it stationary.

well I found a solution, remove the fender, then you can get to that bracket a bit easier. I then pried the nut holders off, got at them with vise-grips, and then i got them out.

now I have to fix that bracket. ugh. i need to learn to weld
