Motronic 3.2:idling high
Idling high , is it time to clean mass airflow/ t/b. When would I be required to do that service?
It is idling high at over 2k. Maybe the microswitch went out. I can hold the throttle down with my hand firmly against the microswitch and it lowers idle if I recall. It was last week. I started it today and it is idling high. The first time I cranked it, it idled properly. Pull out of the garage and idling high. Would like to lower the idle. First, will pull off the K & N Airfilter and purchase cleaner tomorrow. What would you do next? Thank You. Regards,

How old is the O2 sensor? It sounds like it's not getting signaled to go out of cold start.
I'm not aware of a procedure to clean the MAF barn door / TB. It's easy enough to remove and inspect however. Be very careful with the barn door in the MAF, the rheostat is dicey and does wear out. You can get a rebuilt MAF if that's the case. Don

Check your Idle Position Switch (IPS). It is located on the driver's side of the throttle body. Its plug is on the opposite side. To test it, Check continuity between the two posts on the plug. There should be continuity in all positions Except fully closed. If this is not the case; on the side of the throttle body that has the sensor there is a screw just in back of (towards the back of the car) and below the IPS that adjusts that setting.

Check your return spring and throttle cable for adjustment too (drivers side, transmission)

make sure the cruise control cable isn't hanging it up. You can pull the cable out thru the slot by the throttle body and loosen the plastic adjuster

Jeremy: Put my arm down by the tranny (car on the ground) and pulled a little and voila. Down the road, and what do you know it did it again, but controllable with a blip. Blip.

Had the valves adjusted by Frank Eibell and he greased it. Alot less blip is a good thing. It comes down easy at slow down off a pass on the gandy.

I would replace the K&N system with the stock OEM dry paper filters. The oil from an over lubed KN will gum up the trap door of the AF sensor in time and cause poor idling issues Also unless there are other proper mods your engine will not benefit in any way from the K&N filter.

Anh911 Yes I guess it was dry. Now lil lube
![]() tshih: Yes the 3.2 has the proper mods and she is driven hard, and built to do nothing but. And the chip can really let her unwind. Have never run a tank of anything but preium 93 octane. The K&N is always cleaned out and no problems.
