Power Window Problem
 

Right after washing the car, the passenger side power window has trouble going down (almost totally stops about 1 inch from the top) but once I get it down it comes up just fine. I would have thought that it would be slower going up. I don't hear any strange noises and up till today it has always worked fine. Is this a motor problem?

Try some silicone lubricant in the window tracks. My pass. window did this at a cruise night last year. The window ended up coming off the up'down mechanism. I took my door apart inthe parking lot and reset the window in the bottm track. When I got back home afew days later I glued it in with some 3M adhesive. I think it happens as that window gets less use.

If you search, you will see this is quite common. The rubber/felt channel in which the window slides wears out and grabs the glass, sometimes rocking it slightly. The silicone helps, as does pushing down on the back portion of the window as it goes down. Eventually you will have to change the channel.

Thanks for the input. It just seemed bizare that the problem would be going down instead of up.
What "Silicone Lubricant" do you suggest. I used WD40 as a super light lube. I'm assuming that white grease won't look too cool smeared all over the glass.

Bump: any suggestions on what silicone to lube windows?

If you address the root cause of the problem (worn felt chennel), you wont need the silicone lubricant in the window tracks.
That would be my suggestion...

Sounds like the window is a bit loose, binding on the way down when being pulled but not up when being pushed.

New channels should help, they sound like they are swelling up when they get wet.

You can buy silicone spray at most auto parts store....But, if IIRC WD-40 actually works pretty well at removing/reacting with silicone products.

Nine9six is right. Addressing the problem would the right way to correct the problem.
I used just silicone lubricant that I had in the garage. Not WD40 as it won't do much. I have heard that Vaseline will work good as well. Okay, well really any type of lubricant , except WD40, will work.

This is a low mileage garage queen. The felts don't look that worn and the window is level from side to side. I'll lube the felts when they dry out and see what happens from there.

after the felts dry out does it no longer hang up?

i did swap felts out in my car and it solved the problem right away. if you look in a Bentley there are adjustment instructions in the interior section. problem is you have to pull the door panel to do the adjust. the felt install is easier, you don't have to remove the door panel
