Who is using a Steve Wong Chip for his/her 3.2 Carrera (stock exhaust)? Is it worth the $$$ for you guys?
My power really just kicks in above 4000rpm, supposedly the Wong chip helps with this? How about other performance chips? I could not find much about this on the board.

Use your search button; this has been gone over soooo many times. Yes, as an owner of one for about three years, I can tell you that they are great and Steve is a great guy to deal with.
Good luck, Ben Last edited by ben parrish; 01-02-2006 at 03:27 PM.. |

Check out his Web site www.911chip.com. I have to get my 1987 Carrera re-chipped and he is the only one I would consider.

I am definitely getting a SW chip in Q1. Reasonably priced and local for L.A. guys. He even said to swing by and he would personally install it in a few minutes.
You do not get service like that anymore.......

Used his chip in my 3.2 for many years and was very happy with both the chip and Steve.

Most bang for the buck - period. Combine it with a euro premuffler and a sport muffler and woo woo!

If you do a chip, I'd suggest a cat bypass pipe as well. As for the chip, Steve Wong's chips are great in my opinion. I had Steve do a custom chip for my 87 (with MAF) and he was able to gain 9 RWHP over the one chip fits all Autothority chip. Plus the torque is a little better and the curve is flatter.
If you do a chip, Steve's chips are the way to go.

I have read up on the subject as much as any newbie could be expected to do in order to form an opinion. In spite living in Sweden I would still order from Steve W.
Of course, you will probably read at least one other opinion as hinted above... ![]()

Let me ask this question at the risk of highjacking this thread. I'm hoping that the information may prove useful to the original poster anyway.
I have a Carrera now, but prior to that had (still have) an SC for 9 years. One thing I immediately noticed with the Carrera was that the throttle response is nowhere as immediate as with the SC. One has to consciously think about giving a bit of gas prior to fully disengaging the clutch. Even then it's tricky. I suspect this has to with the SC's advance\retard biscuit. The way advance works on the SC is that the green hose (retard side) of the advance biscuit on the dizzy retards timing about 8-9 deg. or so until you crack the throttle, at which point you get instant advance and instant response. Very confidence-inspiring when pulling into an intersection, etc. Almost felt like you didn't need to give the car any gas when taking off. With the Carrera, it'll bog doing that. To me, this takes away big time from the fun-to-drive quotient. I wrote Steve about this asking his opinion and he responded once saying, "yes, 'Carrera lag' is something that is definitely addressed by my chip". I sent another response questioning him further, but did not receive a response. Not to knock Steve; he may not have gotten my email for any number of reasons, but I'm curious about this, since this is the single biggest difference I've felt between Carrera and SC, and I'd like to get others' feedback on this before I shell. Right after the top end that is (ARGHHHH!). ianc

Still contemplating the plunge too then, ianc ?
![]() Reason I have not yet, is I am afraid I will make a total mess of the DME in the process of switching. I am such an imbecile when it comes to electronics... and, well, a lot of other stuff too.

ianc - the Carrera "Bog" "Lag" etc becomes a memory with a 911chips chip. Better mid level throttle response. Usability thoughout the rev range.

Don,
I have the authority MAF and am planning on doing the cat bypass and muffler in the next month. After that off to the dyno and call Steve. Good to hear you like the setup - which bypass/muffler setup did you use?

I am serious, I typed "Steve Wong"and "performance chip" in the search and I cannot find any specific thread to performance chips, probably something I am doing wrong since I am new to this board.
