Unhappy 79 SC Brake light switches

Failed again. I think this is the third set I have put in the car in the 6 or 7 years I have owned her. Last was about a year ago and included a new master cylinder. Has anyone else had this problem?

Is China exporting a hazard. There are two and they both failed and when they did it was intermittent. Got some real *****ing from fellow DE drivers and corner workers who reported it only to have them work when I came in and at the morning tech.

Just changed the brake fluid and bled the brakes. Guess I'll have to do it again. More $$$$

May not be the switch. Make sure the bulbs are getting a good ground in the sockets.
Mine gave me fits when i first got it. work one minute out the next.

Thanks, but when you jumper across the plug and the brake lights light, well it ain't the bulb.

Didn't someone tear one apart and determine the contacts are too small for the current? The solution was new unburnt switches and a relay.

Yep this one can't be blamed on china (too bad) the switches are a poor design from getgo and fail often. I bypassed them many years ago and installed a mechanical switch after my third change out failed.

LED bulbs might help as they typically reduce the current through the circuit.

I have never had an electrical failure of these switches, but have changed several (less than 2 years old) because brake fluid leaks from seal around the electrical terminals.
