Anyone have experience w/ helmet graphics (decals)? Pics?

Looking to spice up a new white helmet a bit. I've found a couple of sites that purvey decals for helmets. Just wondering if anyone here's done one? Pics?

depends on how wild your fantasy runs... but a visit to a local sign shop can answer some of your questions - you can have Porsche Motorsport or Porsche Racing decals applied on the helmet as well as the Porsche crest, etc..

Ed,

It's mostly paint. The only decals are the Gulf logos and the Porsche name in top of the visor.

I originally intended to do only decals, but the fit & finish of larger decals that were needed to be curved around the helmet was not good.

I would only recomend decals if they are small enough to perfectly blend with the curvature of the helmet.

Otherwise you could try purpose built decals for helmets; try:

Gracias ErVikingo!

Timely question, thinking about getting my new helmet done.

Where did you guys get that banner decal that fits the visor so nicely?

Carlos, great quote from Siffert.

Greg, if you notice in my helmet, the white base for the visor decal is completely blank, and is made specially for visors, you can get them in any helmet shop.

Then, the Porsche lettering is a completely separate decal, put on top of the white one. This one is done on a trial & error basis, until it fits right

Ditto on that.
I have had my flight helmets done in the past, and larger decals wrinkle and look like crap. I learned that on the first go, and then had my helmets airbrushed. If done by a good artist, you'll be happy. Watch them do some other work first.

And a note of warning: water based is the way to go. Solvent based paints, bonders, etcetera, can cause damage to the composite integrity. You may not even see it, but it can make a strenght difference when your noggin bounces off something immovable.

Indeed, better yet, contact your local racing club to see if they have a list of approved "artists" because, in order to correctly paint a Helmet, it must be partly dismantled, and some clubs may claim the SNELL or DOT is void.
