bad vibration/shimmy in "79 911SC

I just had my '79 911 SC lowered. Previously it had a mild shaking seemingly from the front end right around 62-72mph. Seems to smooth out above 72mph, and does not appear until near 60mph. Since it was lowered the problem is much worse.

I talked to the owner of the shop where it was lowered. (also bought it there last fall at 29k miles.) He suggests new tires and wheel balancing. I hope he is right, but wonder what else anyone would think of. I love the car, but its been a trial to make it 'right'
Thanks in advance.
Joe

Before I purchased my lowered 78 911, I did some work on it for my friend who owned it. This included a pair of new front tires (S03s). On the drive home with it the car shook violently at highway speed so much that I took the back roads home. After the tires, and a balance of all 4 tires, the car rode beautifully. There could be other issues, but a good tire shop can tell you if your wheels were out of balance (and by how much) before they re-balance them for you if you ask them ahead of time.

I am a newbie, but still.. my 0.2

Tires - wear, balance.
Alignment.
Brakes.

Possibly after lowering, your tie rods are at an angle producing more of a bump steer effect (does not sound like your symptoms however). Does the wheel twitch more violently going over uneven pavement, than before lowering?

Anyway, welcome to the forum. You will get more knowledgeable answers from the pros around here.
