Checking for rust on a 74 911
I'm going to check out a 74 for my dad that was repainted by a guy who owns an auto body shop. Where should I look for hidden or repaired rust?
Thanks- Craig Backer |
Rockers, wheel well, light bucket, suspension pick-up points, lower corners of the windshield front and back, bottoms of doors, around the jack input, rear seats, pedal cluster, battery tray, fender joining panels. OK pretty much check the whole car. Wheel well and jack input areas are probably good places to start.

Sounds good. Thanks.
I'm wondering how much an auto body guy could do to fix and cover up rust. Craig Backer |

You might try using a magnet to determine if an area is full of bondo and then start looking harder if you think an area has been filled with bondo rather than replaced with a clean panel. |
Hey Cliff-
How thick of a magnet would you use? Would a refrigerator pizza ad magnet work? Would you use a piece of paper towel or something between the magnet and the guy's nice new paint job? Thanks- Craig |

You can be creative with this and try various size magnets wrapped in plastic (food wrap) or inside a baggie or place a piece of paper over the area you're checking. |
