Recaro Seat Experts

Hi I am looking to fit a recaro seat to my 912 69 LWB car .. now the seat when I went to fit it was too narrow. I also need a seat base I do understand that these are rare item to find and that it's out the question.
So I have found a base for a recaro from Mark at world wide classics and he has the latest seat bases for the the copy seats that he sells BUT they again are too narrow. So I would have to make a base for the sides ( eg flat plate ) about 2.5" wide . Bolt this down and then add the frame drill and tap new holes for the base then it will fit..

Now I am not sure if this will make me too high so has any one had this problem and can you give me any pic on how to over come it..

Sounds like you are putting later seats in an early car? There was a ready made adapter for this available in the aftermarket in years past--no need to fabricate it unless you want to save $$$ and do it yourself.

It will only raise you by the thickness of the adapter material (1/4"?)

If you are tall and have a problem with headroom, then fabricate some angle iron brackets that attach to the original points to gain depth on the seat mounts. That's what I did with my '73 and gained legroom, too, by putting the crossrails back about 2" on the angle iron.

I put Recaro SPG`s into my 65 912 SWB which we turned into an RSR replica.

Used standard Recaro mounting brackets, sliders from 81 Carerra and adaptor brackets, no problem at all.
